Quex Farms farms over 2500 acres, with further acreage agreements with other farms.

We specialise in regenerative farming and whole farm services. On our home farm, crops include wheat, fava beans, oilseed rape, potatoes, oats, vegetables, and grazing land, with additional areas dedicated to environmental features such as field margins, scrapes, wetlands, and managed woodlands.

Quex Farms is associated with the Nature Friendly Farming Network. The NFFN champions a method of farming that is sustainable, productive and proactive in producing healthy and nutritious food, while working in sympathy with the land, nature and conservation values.

Our team firmly believes that looking after our soils and landscapes in turn looks after our crops. This passion is a bottom-up approach in which our team continues to seek new and innovative methods to accompany our production.

Oilseed Rape

Fava Beans

Fava Beans

Our Fava bean crop is grown for export to a number of countries. This ancient crop, which is an important source of protein is now being used nearer to home as many shift to a more plant-based diet.

Winter Wheat

Wheat

Spring Oats

Quex Farms wheat goes to the flour mills in Tilbury. From there, it is taken to make bread and flour products for producers such as Hovis, Kingsmill and Warburtons. All our wheats are grown within the no-till method, and includes a companion crop of beans.

Oats

Maris Peer Potatoes

As with all of our cereals, oats, too, are grown regeneratively. Before drilling the oats, sheep grazed the cover crop to convert the plant material into organic fertiliser to nourish the soil. No till drilling leads to little soil disturbance, which is all part of our Sustainable Farming Initiative. Our oats go to suppliers working for household names such as Scott’s Porridge Oats.

Potatoes

Here is the potato crop in full bloom at Quex Farms. The potatoes are dispatched for local consumption and to larger potato customers as well.

A field of wildflowers

Quex Farms has over 20% of its total farmland dedicated to environmental schemes, including flower-rich grassland, field margins, grazing marshes, hedgerows, and woodlands. This encourages pollinators to visit the crops and create a ‘super highway’ for insects to feed as they pollinate. This chalky bank at Acol demonstrates the use of planting flower-rich swards.

Environmental

No till drilling of cover crop

Aside from growing our own cereal and vegetable crops, we also offer our contracting and whole farm services. All services are available from spraying to drilling. Contact us to discuss further.

Farm Contracting

Sussex cattle grazing on our marsh

When you incorporate animals like cattle or sheep grazing on the land, they convert plant material into nutrient-rich manure that directly fertilises the fields in an organic, natural way. This cycling reduces fertiliser costs by up to 50%, while improving nitrogen availability for plants. Quex Barn grazes cattle on much of our grazing marshes.
